The Last Week Of Classes April 21, 2008
Posted by bperdue in : Uncategorized , add a commentI’ve done a lot since the last time I posted. The short version is that the visualization is up and running, all pretty and debugged. The only problem is that I can’t upload the music to go with it. At first it was a problem with file extension (.wav is what SL accepts), but once that was resolved I now get a message about a “vorbis encode failure” upon trying to upload the files. The only option I can think of is to try to stream the files from somewhere, which SL allows, but I don’t have anywhere to put the files that I could stream them from. If anyone knows of a way around this (and still reads this blog), let me know. It’s the last piece of the proverbial puzzle.

The Week With the (More Than Usual) Network Trouble April 14, 2008
Posted by bperdue in : Uncategorized , add a commentI tried to get the visualization in testing shape for today, but the network wouldn’t hear of it. Last night I managed to get some work in, when the network would hold a connection for any reasonable length of time, but it took me longer to do things than it should have. I finally had to call it a night before quite getting to my goal, although considering that the network wasn’t working well most of this afternoon, I’m not sure how much use the visualization would have been anyway.
Now, however, I’m trying to get onto SL to finish what I wanted to finish yesterday, but I’m not having much success. The wired network is working, but, as usual, is not fast enough to actually log in to Second Life on. The wireless network, which is what I usually use because a lot fewer people are on it, seems to be nonexistent still. For the moment I’ve hit a wall. I’ll try again throughout the night, and keep trying over the course of the week when I get opportunities.

The Week…With Stuff April 7, 2008
Posted by bperdue in : Uncategorized , add a commentOkay, quick update here. Not much to say yet, as usual. I’ve found some good, basic MIDIs to use. They’re all pretty short and tunes that I think most everyone would know, so that should work out for the survey, methinks. I’ll work up the precise questions for the survey later tonight or tomorrow. After that, I’ll endeavor to get the code all worked out.
I wish I had a little more time to work on the project here in the home stretch, but lately that’s been easier said than done. Well, we’ll see what happens.
Time so far: 1 hr.
EDIT: Worked on some code, replacing the stuff that I lost. The network isn’t being especially friendly to Second Life right now, so I’ve got the code in Notepad and will just copy-and-paste it. I’ll upload things in the next day or so sometime when the network isn’t as active.
Updated time: 3.5 hrs.
