Week 1 January 28, 2008
Posted by bperdue in : Uncategorized , trackbackI don’t have a lot of interest to report in this first post, so I’ll make it brief. I’ve gotten some basic research started, and have some interesting ideas about where I might look next for information.
Consistently, for instance, I have encountered past music visualizations making very specific use of color. Color, in these cases, has been equated with certain emotions which the particular piece invokes in the listener. One project I read about allowed the listener to select a color themselves - the visualization was a component of a program based upon iTunes, which allowed users to group playlists based on the colors associated with the songs they included. Another project, for which I’ve only found a PowerPoint so far, had some sort of algorithm for estimating the “mood” of the piece, and labeled it with an appropriate color on a two-dimensional plane based upon this estimate. In short, I plan to look seriously into some color psychology, especially if I can find something pertaining to music in particular.
That’s basically the most interesting thing I’ve found. I’ve run across a few dead ends, which I expect at this phase. Hopefully I’ll have at least another article or two read by the Wednesday meeting. Also, this week I’ll need to get started on working in Second Life as well, since I need to learn how to manipulate objects there.
Well, that’s it for now - short and sweet.
